Friendship, una película de Rosie Berrido. La primera parte de una trilogía.
Selecciona de manera especial para abrir con esta muestra nuestra primera versión del Cayenne Short Film Festival. Es la historia de Virginia y Rose. Virginia es contratada para ayudar a Rose en la casa. Con el tiempo las mujeres se convierten en familiares, compartiendo secretos y creando alianzas. Cuando Rose se enferma Virginia se enfrenta con lo inevitable.

“AMISTAD” ha tenido participaron en VIVA Latino Film Fest. Y LOISAIDA Short Film Fest .; Ganador Mejor Corto y Favorito de la Audiencia, así como finalista en el Festival de Cine de Los Ángeles. Y más recientemente Festival de Cine Global en la República Dominicana.

ACTO FINAL

Abril es un joven de 22 años, actor profesional de teatro y abiertamente homosexual; con un padre homofóbico al que dejó de ver durante varios años. Abril tiene una relación de tres años con su pareja Julio, un joven de 26 años, quien por su condición económica planea irse a estudiar al exterior. Desde este momento la vida de Abril cambia inesperadamente.

BROKEN ANGELS

Lia’s short film Broken Angels which she wrote, directed, and stars in. Broken Angels – Is about eight women survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Has participated in nine festivals. Broken Angels also stars Loles Leon premiered this June at The Dominican Film Festival in New York. Lia won best actress for her role in Broken Angels at the ‘Festival de Cine Social de Castilla La Mancha’ in Spain.

THE TEXTURE OF THE LIGHT

Arilyn Martínez Cora’s short filmThe Texture of the Light which she wrote and directed, is based on a single mother who is forced to revisit her past when she desperately needs the stem cells of her ex-boyfriend Javier to help improve her son’s eyesight. The Texture of the Light has received several awards from the film festival circuit in the U.S. Tri-State Area. Currently, she is drafting a feature film.

YO CREO EN MANUEL

Los padres de Manuel, no tienen los recursos ni el apoyo del estado para cubrir las atenciones.

Yo Creo en Manuel sobre un niño autista que logra vencer sus propias limitaciones logrando ganar una beca en España donde lograría tener mejores tratamientos, mismos que su padres no podían pagar. Esta obra obtuvo el primer lugar en el Amucine Short Film Competition 2016 que organiza la Asociación de Mujeres del Cine de la Republica Dominicana.

Inti Maite Santana Rodríguez ha sido admitida con su cortometraje Yo Creo en Manuel en el Dominican Film Festival en New York del señor Armando Guareño y su obra también ha de participar en el Womens Voices Now un prestigioso festival de cine para mujeres de gran prestigio internacional en la ciudad de California.

BUHONEROS

Face many problems in New York City. One of those issues is the cap that limits the number of licenses given to them since 1981, provoking a significant increase in black market deals. PASTORA has been selling underwear on the same spot for 25 years; BRAD sells used books; HUMBERTO sells horse saddles and NENA “LA RUBIA” has spent more than 20 years cooking a Dominican dessert called Sweet Beans and had established a well-known business along with several family members. All of them make a living in Washington Heights. But, none of them have a license.

Street Vendors Project advocates for street vendors rights. Their goal is to convince the City Council to issue more licenses in order to allow street vendors to have the opportunity to operate their small businesses fair and square and help the economy of the city.

CLAIRE

Inmersa en un matrimonio turbulento, Claire, una ejecutiva exitosa, intenta escapar del acoso de su esposo y se enamora de su ingeniero técnico. Mientras ella busca una relación sentimental firme, el interés de su nuevo amante reside en otra lugar.

PRESENTE PERFECTO

Isabel, casada con Alejandro. Tienen una hermosa familia, 2 niños, (Alejandra y Alejandro junior). Pero se ven envueltos en una tragedia cuando el niño más pequeño muere de neumonía, al agravarse por mojarse en el aguacero, Isabel se echa toda la culpa y es víctima de una depresión que la lleva a alejarse de su familia, no sale de una habitación oscura y duerme a base de pastilla que su doctora María les receta. Pero un día llega a casa una “doctora” nueva, con el pretexto de que maría está de viaje. Y es quien ayuda a Isabel a salir de la depresión, pero esa doctora no es quien dice ser, es un ángel enviado por DIOS, frutos de las oraciones de su hija Alejandra. Isabel sale adelante ya que ese Ángel le muestra el camino de la perseverancia, haciendo que ella vea como destruye su familia si se consume en la depresión.

EL NIÑO

A day in the Universe of the The Child and Celia his mother. For the child today is not and ordinary day. Celia has taken a decision and now is the time to put it into action. The day passes between mundane, seemingly banal activities. Celia collects and pack her son’s things, she dresses and then she’s ready to leave.

In the small things, in the simplicity, in every look, inmersed in an emotional journey that is observed by the kid. Both of them leave their home, leave behind everything they know and what they were, or what they could become. Now there are two of them alone in the middle of the universe. Both go a long way to the point of no return. The future is uncertain and complicity and sadness are transformed into hope and melancholy.

In “The Child”, they live with their desires, memories, fears and dreams they live with just themselves. We are spectators of that process which allows someone to go beyond their limits, to face up to the uncertainty of their destiny.

Soraya Mateo
Born in Santo Domingo on Decembre 9. Love writing since high school when she wrote her first short novel “Tentation” that was very popular between her classmates. Started her career in the Dominican movie industry in 2006. Since then, has prepared herself as a screenwriter, producer and director, also in some other areas of production like editing and photography. Did some acting in a TV series and one of her short films. Member of DR Film Commission and the Dominican Assosiation of Filmakers.
